Always

She would silently slip
secret notes in his bag,
poems of her love for him
over which he would brag.

He always wondered
who wrote such lines lovely,
though he could never really
figure out the mystery.

Goodbyes exchanged,
years passed,
and they met again,
but her love for him
was one thing
that still remained.

So she tried sneaking in
the pile of notes
she had written over the years,
to confess her love for him
was one thing she still feared.

Caught in the act,
a little scared
she dropped the pile,
revealing the hidden truth,
her nervous smile.

He picked up
and read
the words that she kept
to this day
“But…After all this time?”
Always!
